A Little About Goodyear, AZ.
Goodyear is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, located about 17 miles west of downtown Phoenix. Originally inhabited by Akimel O’odham and Tohono O’odham peoples, the area was used for cattle ranching and agriculture in the late 1800s and early 1900s. In 1917, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company purchased 16,000 acres of land to grow cotton, building a cotton gin and store, and establishing a company town. The company also operated an airfield used for military training during World War II.
After the war, Goodyear’s population grew, and the town was incorporated in 1946. The city experienced significant growth in the 1960s and 1970s, attracting new residents with its warm climate and proximity to Phoenix. Today, Goodyear is home to over 86,000 people and hosts large employers such as Amazon, Lockheed Martin, and Cancer Treatment Centers of America. It also boasts a lively arts and culture scene, featuring various events and festivals throughout the year.
